WILTON, Conn. - While the Wilton High girls basketball team grabbed many of the headlines this winter, the boys also snapped a long playoff drought. The Warrior boys will play in their first state tournament game since 2000 on Monday evening at 6 p.m.
Wilton takes on University High School of Hartford at the Sports and Medical Sciences Academy in the first round of the Class L state tournament.
It was an astonishing turnaround year for the Wilton boys, after posting a 2-18 record last year. The boys were perennial basement dwellers, enduring a 41-game losing streak in the early 2000s.
That all changed this season with a 10-10 regular season finish that included big wins over conference playoff qualifiers Danbury and Bridgeport Central. The Warriors won four of their final six games to finish with .500 winning percentage.
