Wilton Baseball Drops Third Straight

WILTON, Conn. — In a game plagued by errors, the Wilton Warriors saw another late lead slip away Wednesday as they fell to Fairfield Warde, 6-3, for a third straight loss.

Warde got off to a quick start, scoring two runs in the top of the first off Wilton starter Garrett Furnivall. However, Wilton responded quickly with two runs in the bottom of the third, thanks to two Fairfield Warde errors and a Connor Buhler RBI single. Ryan Reuther led off the bottom of the fourth with a single and was driven in by Furnivall's deep double over the center fielder's head to give the Warriors a 3-2 lead.

A leadoff double by Warde in the sixth followed by a Wilton error left runners at first and third and put Furnivall in a tricky situation. A wild pitch on a full count allowed the runner to score from third, tying the game at 3-3.

After a Wilton pickoff attempt at second with two out failed on a dropped ball, Warde belted an RBI single to center to take the lead. It like would have been worse if not for shortstop Brett Phillips gunning down the runner at home from shallow center.

Two more Warde RBI singles in the top of the seventh off the junior Reuther put the visitors up by three, and Warde starter Dan Warren shut down the Warrioirs, going the distance. Wilton is now 2-5 on the season, 1-4 in the FCIAC.

The Warriors' next game is at 3 p.m. Thursday in Bridgeport against Harding.
