Wilton 5th-Graders Earn a Pair of Wins

WILTON, Conn. — The Wilton fifth-grade boys basketball team defeated Redding-Easton, 50-22, on Saturday. The Wilton team is sponsored by Pinocchio Pizza.

Every Wilton player scored. Kyle Phillips led the way with 15 points, five rebounds and four steals. Zayvion Eusebe also had a strong outing with seven points, six rebounds and a steal.

Tyler Previte posted six points, two rebounds and a steal. Beautiful passing by Cole Barnes (four points, one rebound) and Zach Dedrick (two points, two rebounds), aggressive court play by Brendan Connor (four points, one rebound, two steals) and Zach Pozzi (four points, three steals) and strong boards by Richard Nolan (four points, four rebounds, one steal), Ryan Schriber (two points, two rebounds, two steals) and Billy Ronk (two points, one rebound) rounded out the team play. The squad split two Fairfield County Basketball League games Sunday. Wilton defeated Southbury, 33-30, as Connor led the scoring with 10 points to go along with four steals. Phillips (seven points, five rebounds, four steals) and Schriber (four points, five rebounds, five steals) had solid all-around games, while Dedrick (two points, two steals) and Barnes (four points, one steal) harassed the Southbury backcourt the entire game. Nolan was a warrior in the paint, dominating the glass with seven rebounds.  

Wilton dropped the afternoon game to a strong Darien team, 38-22. Previte had a game-high six points, while Eusebe chipped in five points. Pozzi's quick hands and great anticipation led to five steals, and Ronk added four rebounds and two steals.

Wilton is 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the league. It returns to action Jan. 7 against New Canaan.
