WILTON, Conn. The Wilton fifth-grade boys won two hard-fought games against strong opponents in the Fairfield County Basketball League.
Wilton, sponsored Pinocchio Pizza, beat Westport, 34-29, in a game that was close until the end. Guard Zachary Pozzi had an all-around strong performance with 10 points, seven steals and three rebounds. Speedy point guard Brendan Connor scored nine points (two steals, one rebound). Disruptive defensive play was provided by forward Kyle Philips with six steals. Philips was also strong under the boards with 10 rebounds and three points. Guard Zach Dedrick chipped in a foul shot and had a good game with seven rebounds. Terrific play from forwards Ryan Schriber (four points, one rebound, two steals) and Zayvion Eusebe (four points, two rebounds, one steal) rounded out the teams scoring.
Wilton followed up with a 32-13 win against Shelton. Wiltons rebounding was the difference. Centers Richard Nolan (five points, seven rebounds, two steals) and Tyler Previte (seven rebounds, four steals) were dominant under the boards. Ryan Schriber (five points, two steals) also proved to be a force under the boards with 11 rebounds. Point guard Cole Barnes (four points, two steals) provided a spark with nifty pass play throughout the game. Forward Billy Ronk hustled to rack up six important rebounds and two steals while applying defensive pressure throughout.
Wilton, 4-2 on the season, meets Redding-Easton on Saturday.
