Wilton 5th Grade Boys Drop a Pair

WILTON – The Wilton fifth-grade boys travel basketball team, sponsored by Pinocchio Pizza, dropped a pair of games this past weekend to St. Mary’s of Ridgefield by scores of 43-41 and 39-28.

On Saturday, the Warriors started off well with sharp passing and good shooting, leading Ridgefield at halftime. St Mary’s capitalized on Wilton’s foul trouble, however, and made a very high percentage of its free throws.

Zach Pozzi (10 points), Kyle Phillips (eight points), Cole Barnes (six points) and Zayvion Eusebe (six points) led Wilton’s scoring and kept the game close. Tyler Previte was a monster on the boards, pulling down 12 rebounds. Richard Nolan (four points), Zach Dedrick and Brendan Connor (two points), Ryan Schriber and Billy Ronk (three rebounds) contributed to Wilton’s effort.

In Sunday’s game against Ridgefield, Pozzi (14 points, six steals) led the team with dominant play on both ends of the court. Phillips (four points) followed with aggressive defensive play that resulted in a number of jump balls. Schriber’s (four points) ball handling skills were on display as he played point guard for the first time. Connor (two points) never let up hustling. Tyler Previte (two points) continued his toughness under the boards with more terrific rebounding and defense. Dedrick played solid with key assists and one steal in the fourth quarter. Eusebe (two points) rounded out the team's scoring.

The Wilton fifth-grade boys (8-8) take on New Canaan YMCA and Madison Black this weekend.
