WESTPORT, Conn. – Chad Knight’s two-out, RBI double capped a two-run rally in the fifth inning and lifted the Westport Little League All-Stars to a 3-2 victory over Nashville, Tenn., Thursday night in their first game at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.

Westport, the New England champion, will play Washington on Sunday at 2 p.m. The game will be televised by ABC. Westport improved its record to 19-0 for this summer.

Thursday’s win was one of the most dramatic of the summer. Westport led 1-0 on the strength of a first-inning run before Nashville scored one in the third and one in the fifth to take the lead, one of the few times Westport trailed this summer.

Ricky Offenberg’s leadoff homer in the bottom of the fifth tied the game, and Chris Drbal reached on a one-out single. He took second on a passed ball. After an out, Knight doubled in the left-center gap as Drbal raced home with the winning run.

Harry Azadian got the win in relief of Knight.  Azadian pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing one run and one hit. Knight had another strong outing, pitching 4 1/3 innings, yielding five hits and allowing one run. He struck out eight and did not walk a batter.

Azadian, who threw 16 pitches, will have sufficient rest under Little League rules to pitch Sunday. Knight cannot pitch until Monday.

Knight had two of Westport’s seven hits. Westport had two runners thrown out at home, once in the first and again in the fourth. Matt Stone's RBI single in the first drove in Knight for Westport's first run.

Washington advanced earlier in the day with an 8-4 win over Texas. For complete tournament details, visit the Little League World Series website.
