WILTON, Conn. – The Wilton Board of Education approved Superintendent Kevin Smith's proposed $81 million budget for the 2016-17 school year during a Thursday night meeting, according to the Wilton Bulletin.

The final budget number of $80.97 million is an increase of 1.27 percent from the current budget, and a shade under Smith's proposed $81.1 million budget, the Wilton Bulletin said.

Revisions were made after the Wilton Energy Commission shaved about $130,000 off its original estimate, reported the Wilton Bulletin.

The largest pieces of the budget are salaries (just more than 60 percent) and employee benefits (just less than17 percent), the Wilton Bulletin noted.
