Updated at 4:16 p.m. WILTON, Conn. – The pending arrival of Hurricane Sandy has prompted Wilton Public Schools to close on Monday and Tuesday.
Wilton Schools Superintendent Gary Richards announced the closure on Sunday afternoon. A decision on whether schools will open Wednesday will be made Tuesday, Richards said. Throughout the storm, the district will work with Wilton’s Emergency Operations Center.
The Wilton Emergency Management Center is scheduled to open Monday morning. The town has warned residents to prepare for lengthy power outages.
Wilton Library will also be closed Monday and Tuesday. Janet Crystal, a library spokeswoman, said the building will reopen as soon as it is safe to be in operation.

Town officials have asked residents to secure or remove all temporary advertising signs, flags, lawn signs and banners to prevent property damage or injuries due to flying debris.
