WILTON, Conn. — Wilton students looking forward to summer vacation will have to wait longer than originally planned. The school year has been extended by six days thanks to the snow days the district has accumulated this winter.

The last day of classes was originally scheduled for June 9. Now, students will be in school until June 17, said Molly Rollison, administrative assistant to the superintendent.

With no emergency cancellation days built into the district calendar, snow days are instead made up at the end of the year. However, if there are more snow days this winter that would push the last day of school past June 20, Rollison said the Board of Education will consider making up days during April vacation beginning with April 14.

For example, if there are four more snow days this winter, the school year would be extended to June 20, accounting for three of the four days. The fourth day would then be made up on the first day of April vacation.

The district has not yet set a date for graduation. That will be determined on April 1.
