Wilton Voters Favor Murphy, McMahon For Senate

WILTON, Conn. — Wilton voters mirrored the rest of the state Tuesday in picking Democrat Rep. Chris Murphy and former WWE CEO Linda McMahon in Tuesday's U.S. Senate primaries.

While final state results weren't in late Tuesday night, Wilton voters gave McMahon 570 votes to Shays' 443. Democrats choose Murphy as 398 to 118 over former secretary of the state Susan Bysewicz.

Wilton resident Jon Ellenthal, 47, is a registered Democrat, but said he doesn’t side specifically with either major party. As he walked into Cider Mill School to cast his vote, he said he wants someone in the Senate to represent the people and to bring about positive change. “I want someone who will go to Washington for the right reasons,” he said.

Bill Kydes, 21, said he wasn’t too impressed with Shays or McMahon on the Republican ticket. Kydes, who supported Ron Paul’s presidential campaign, voted for McMahon because he disagreed with some of Shays’ stances, including those on gun control and supporting war.

Geneve Hendricks of Wilton, who voted in the Democratic primary, didn’t discuss her vote, but said she wants to set a good example. “Every time we have the opportunity to vote, we should,” she said. “I’m always looking for someone who is honest and will do right.”
