WILTON, Conn. It will be at least two more weeks before a Wilton Center restaurant learns whether it can add an outdoor patio along with more indoor seating.
The Wilton Planning and Zoning Commission decided Monday to continue discussion on an application by Bon Appetit to make significant changes to its layout. The commission will discuss the application again at its July 23 meeting.
Owner Dominique Arrighi must submit new lighting plans for inside and outside of the restaurant, planning commissioners said. Arrighi plans to build a permanent dining patio at the front of the French-style bistro that would sit 16 guests. He also hopes to expand the indoor seating by about 35 seats, converting the former Shaolin Studios karate school space into an indoor cocktail and wine bar.
Members of the planning commission also discussed concerns about parking at the expanded restaurant. Theres certainly enough for the evening, but will there be enough for the daytime crowd, Planning Chairman John Wilson said, citing Bon Appetits location near other restaurants and the Stop & Shop supermarket.
The commission may revisit parking and seating regulations for future restaurant applications, but the commission cannot make any changes with regard to Bon Appetits application, Wilson said.
Arrighi wants the patio to better serve customers and because other diners in town already have outdoor eating areas. Restaurants in the Wilton Center zone require a special use permit to have outdoor dining, Assistant Town Planner Daphne White recently said. The commission has received nearly 40 letters supporting Bon Appetits plan and has heard from no one who opposes it.
