Wilton Names Nine To Economic Development Board

WILTON, Conn. – Nine people will serve on the newly created Wilton Economic Development Commission.

After waiting two weeks to receive more applications, the Board of Selectmen named nine town residents to the new economic board: Republicans Nick Davatzes, Karen Kessler, Peter Gaboriault, Mike Lindberg, Al Nickel and Lee Wilson; Democrat Shaun Marcell; and unaffiliated residents Anthony Priesano and Chris Stroup. All of the appointed members will serve two-year terms. The six residents not chosen will serve as reserves.

The selectmen were happy with the field of candidates. “I’m very excited about this,” said First Selectman Bill Brennan. He wants the group to advance the positive economic steps the town has already taken.

Brennan cautioned residents from expecting too much from the group in the early stages. “When you form an economic development commission, it doesn’t mean in 90 days that you’re going to have a new industrial park sprouting up at some point. It means you’re going to develop for the future,” he said. “It is a never-ending process.”

Brennan hopes the new commission can meet again in two to three weeks.

The selectmen extended the time period to receive submissions from candidates, noting that the original field did not have any women. Brennan reiterated that the board was looking for the most qualified set of applicants with the best skills regardless of gender.
