Woman Charged With Identity Theft In Wilton In Stolen Check Scheme

WILTON, Conn. — A 35-year-old woman from Seymour was arrested on multiple charges in Wilton after she tried to cash a stolen $3,000 check, police said.

Shelli Shapiro, of Roberts Street, Seymour, was arrested Oct. 16, police said. 

Shapiro stole a $3,000 check from a car parked at a home on Old Nursery Drive in Wilton, according to the Wilton Bulletin. She then attempted to cash the check at Bankwell in Fairfield, the Bulletin said. 

She was charged with identity theft, third-degree criminal attempt to commit larceny, third-degree forgery, third-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, third-degree conspiracy to commit forgery and conspiracy to commit identity theft. 

Shapiro posted $7,500 bond and will appear in court Oct. 26 at Norwalk Superior Court.
