WILTON, Conn. A Danbury woman wanted in New York City on a 16-year-old warrant is facing charges in Wilton related to the theft of a wedding band from a Coachmans Place home, police said.
Ivonete Soares de Castro, 55, of Moss Avenue, was charged Thursday with third-degree larceny, a felony, and being a fugitive from justice.
A Wilton woman reported that her wedding band had been taken from a nightstand in her bedroom when cleaners were in her Coachmans Place home, police said. Castro was seen wearing the ring two months later, police said.
The ring was recovered, and Castro was arrested at 11 a.m. Thursday. Police later discovered that Castro was wanted in New York City on a warrant from 1996, which prompted the fugitive of justice charge, pending her extradition.
Castro posted $10,000 bond but was ordered held in custody because of the fugitive charge. She appeared Friday in Norwalk Superior Court.
