According to a post on its Facebook page, the department has set up a 24-hour video surveillance system monitoring an area of its parking lot where eBay, Craigslist and other online transactions can take place.

The department has placed some limitations on the space, however.

While the area will be monitored, illegal transactions involving "dangerous or deadly weapons or any other dangerous materials," will not be permitted, according to police.

Further, department employees will not be available to witness or otherwise or be a part of any transactions, police said.

"We are just providing a safe location to conduct your transactions," said the department's Facebook statement. "This is just another step at helping keep citizens safe here in Wilton."

The Wilton Police Department headquarters is located at 240 Danbury Road.
