WILTON, Conn. Racist messages posted on Twitter involving Wilton are being investigated by Wilton Police.
The tweets were posted recently by someone using the Twitter name YouLiveInWilton. Posted to the account were several racist and anti-Semitic messages. The account was deleted as of Tuesday, though it is not clear if it was removed by the social media website or by the user. Police are trying to determine if the tweets were posted from Wilton High School.
Wilton Police Capt. John Lynch said officers are investigating to determine if a crime was committed, though no threats were issued. Were not sure what the motivation is. It seemed to be very biased, he said. We are looking at what we can to see if any laws were violated.
State Sen. Toni Boucher, R-Wilton, said in a recent letter that the tweets present a teachable moment for the town and she hoped they would lead to a serious discussion on prejudice.
The hateful language contained in these tweets does not represent the community in which we live and should not be tolerated in our homes, our town or our state, Boucher said.
