Wilton Police Host Prescription Drug Collection Day

WILTON, Conn. — Wilton residents will once again have the opportunity to rid their homes of expired, unused or unwanted prescription medications this Saturday during a prescription drug take-back event at the Wilton Police Department.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., residents can dispose of these medications by dropping them in a collection box inside the lobby of the police department, 240 Danbury Road. The service is free and anonymous.

Flushing unused medications down the toilet or throwing them in the trash can pose potential health and safety hazards. This event provides residents with a safe method of disposal.

The take-back event is a nationwide initiative led by the Drug Enforcement Administration and local police departments to decrease prescription drug abuse rates. Since the initiative was started in 2010, the DEA reports  more than 2 million pounds of prescription drugs were turned in at thousands of locations across the country.

The collection box will remain in the lobby of the police department after Saturday for any residents who can't make the trip at that time.
