Wilton Family Business Donates for Police Dog

WILTON, Conn. – With the help of a substantial donation from the animal food company Blue Buffalo, the Wilton Police Department can bring back its canine unit.

The company, owned by Wilton residents William Bishop and his two sons, Chris and Billy Bishop, donated $50,000 to the project. The Police Department said in a statement it would not have been able to restart the program without the donation. The department hasn't had a canine unit for about 15 years.

Officer Stephen Rangel was chosen as the new police canine handler after an extensive testing process. Rangel will attend a nine-week training program later this summer to work with the new dog. Once complete, he will be on duty with the dog as part of his normal patrol duties.

During a meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Wilton Town Hall, Bishop will present a check to the Wilton Police Department; the public is welcome to attend.
