Officers responded to a Darien address on the report of a domestic dispute on Friday, Feb. 15 around 3:30 a.m. The caller stated that a party had arrived at her front door and asked for help. A few minutes prior, the caller allegedly heard two people arguing outside for around 20 minutes.

Upon further investigation, officers determined that the victim was in a relationship with the suspect, who police later identified as 49-year-old Arthur Jenkins of Darien.

The victim allegedly spent the evening with Jenkins, and when attempting to leave, Jenkins grabbed the victim’s wrist and became irate.

While trying to calm Jenkins, the victim’s phone was thrown and several articles of clothing were ripped, police say. Jenkins then allegedly dragged the victim by the ankles before the victim was able to escape to the safety of a neighbor’s house.

Officers spoke with Jenkins, who accused the victim of being intoxicated and verbally abusive toward himself and other members of his family earlier in the day. Jenkins also told police that he asked the victim to leave several times, but his requests were denied.

Jenkins further stated that things had calmed down and he and the victim went to sleep. He allegedly awoke to the victim climbing on him, which prompted him to ask the victim to leave again. When the victim continued to refuse, Jenkins admitted to grabbing the victim’s wrist and ankles in a final attempt to get the victim out.

Based on these allegations, Jenkins was charged with breach of peace, a misdemeanor, and released on a promise to appear. He was scheduled to return to court on Friday, Feb. 15.
