WILTON, Conn. -- A police stop of a vehicle without lights on turned out to be lights out for a pair of Stamford men who were arrested on weapons charges, Wilton police said.

At 3 a.m. Saturday, officers stopped a Mercury SUV on Danbury Road in Wilton, police said. During the stop, the officer detected the smell of marijuana and soon after conducted a search of the vehicle, police said.

Officers discovered a pistol, a set of brass knuckles, amphetamine pills and a small amount of marijuana in the car, police said.

Police said Tariq Marquise Andino, 20, of 446 Courtland Ave., owned the pistol, which police described as a weapon with a large-capacity magazine. He was charged with carrying illegal weapons in a motor vehicle, criminal possession of a pistol, carrying a firearm without the proper permit, and illegal possession of a large-capacity weapon.

Police said that Richard Desmond, 23, of 43 Deacon Hill Road, had the brass knuckles in his possession. He was charged with the carrying or sale of a dangerous weapon, illegal weapons in a motor vehicle, narcotics possession and possession of less than a half ounce of marijuana.

Police also discovered Desmond was wanted in connection with a probation violation. He was unable to post $40,000 bond and was scheduled to be arraigned at Norwalk Superior Court on Monday.

Andino posted his $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Norwalk Superior Court on Dec. 1.
