A man approached a taxi driver after exiting the rear passenger side of a light gray 2020 Jeep Cherokee near the 300 block of Chestnut Street around 10 p.m., Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said.

The man robbed the taxi driver at gunpoint and took an iPhone 8-Plus, Galaxy Tablet S7 and $300 in cash before returning to the vehicle, which was reported stolen from Irvington around 8:35 p.m., Ambrose said.

The stolen Jeep then headed north on Adams Street, Ambrose said.
