Member of Nationwide Theft Ring Wanted in Wilton

WILTON, Conn. – A Florida woman suspected of belonging to a national group called "The Felony Lane Gang" is wanted on a warrant charging her with several Wilton thefts, police report.

The suspect, Shannon Truax, 41, is currently being held by the Milford Police. She is accused in an April 21 incident in which a Wilton woman's driver's license and bank information were taken from her car at the LA Fitness gym in Norwalk, Wilton Police said. The stolen information was used to make a $3,000 withdrawal from the Chase Bank in Wilton.

Wilton Police said there were several similar incidents in which “the same female suspect was observed making the bank transactions.”

Truax was identified as a suspect in similar incidents across the country through a  multi-department investigation that included the Wilton, Westport and New Canaan Police Departments and the U.S. Secret Service.

“The Felony Lane Gang” typically preys on women who leave their purses in “gym, park, church and school parking lots,” police said.

Truax was identified by a teller at a Bank of America branch in Milford on May 29 based on a photo circulated to banks around the county.

The Wilton warrant charges Truax with identity theft, larceny and forgery in the third degree as well as criminal impersonation. Wilton has not yet made a formal arrest.

Wilton Police said the departments in towns where the gang is alleged to have operated are looking to have Truax charged at the federal level.
