Wilton Police say they observed the driver of a BMW sedan traveling southbound swerve partially into another lane on Sunday, Aug. 4 around 9:30 p.m.

When initiating a traffic stop, police say the driver, identified as Christian Schoellauf of New Haven, swerved into the officer's lane again.

During questioning, police say they detected an alcoholic odor coming from the vehicle. After initially stating that he did not consume any alcohol, Schoellauf allegedly admitted to drinking two beers at a friend’s house in Danbury.

Schoellauf was then asked to participate in a series of field sobriety tests, during which he allegedly stopped and told officers they “knew he was drunk, so what’s the point.”

Schoellauf was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs (second offense) and failure to drive right.

During processing, police say Schoellauf’s BAC was tested at .2719.

Schoellauf was released after posting a $260 bond and is scheduled to appear at Norwalk Superior Court on Thursday, Aug. 15.
