Man Charged With Unlawful Discharge Of Firearm In Wilton

WILTON, Conn. – A Norwalk man who Wilton Police said was having a medical episode in the woods is facing a charge of firing off his gun in a wooded area.

Karl Alphonse, 57, of 8 Ward St., Norwalk was charged last Thursday with unlawful discharge of a firearm. Police said they received a 911 call just before 7 a.m. of a gunshot being fired behind the commuter parking lot off Route 7 near Wolfpit Road. Police said a witness told officers that the gunshot was accompanied by someone calling for help from the woods. Police found Alphonse holding himself up by a tree and saw that he had a loaded gun in his pocket. Police said the gun had one live round in the chamber and two spent rounds. Alphonse also had a speed loader and a buck knife.

Police said Alphonse, who appeared to be disheveled, told officers he had come to the area two days before to go fishing, but was having a medical episode and needed help. Police said Alphonse said he did not fire his gun, but had set off fireworks to get someone’s attention. Police found shell casings in the area, but no fireworks. Police said that Alphonse later told police that he did fire the gun, which he is licensed to carry.  Alphonse was released and is scheduled to appear on July 16.
