Heroic Wilton Police Sergeant Battling With Cancer

WILTON, Conn. -- Sgt. Thomas Tunney, known to many as TJ, has worked to protect the Wilton community for 31 years, according to the Wilton Bulletin.

Now, after years of helping others, Tunney, who was Officer of the Year in 2013, has been diagnosed with cancer and is in need of help, and his fellow officers are asking the public to join them in doing just that, reported the newspaper.

To help Tunney with his medical bills and other expenses due to his illness, the Wilton Police Benevolent Association has set up a special fund for residents or anyone else wishing to help. To donate, mail, or bring a check to the Wilton Police Department, 240 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT 06897. All checks should be made out to Wilton PBA with a notation of “TJ” in the memo section, the Wilton Bulletin said.

In addition, the PBA will host a fundraiser at the Ponus Yacht Club in Stamford on Jan. 7.Tickets are $40 and may be purchased at police headquarters or by calling 203-834-6260 or emailing david.hartman@wiltonct.org.
