New Haven County resident Steven Texidor, age 31, of Waterbury, was arrested Thursday, June 9, on multiple charges stemming from the attack, according to Connecticut State Police.

Investigators said Texidor and another man were riding in a car with the victim on I-84 in Waterbury at around 2 a.m. on June 25, 2021 when they began hitting the victim in the face and pointing a gun at him.

A struggle ensued and at some point the gun went off, the victim told police.

State troopers later found the car crashed on the shoulder of I-84 with the victim inside, bleeding from the abdomen, police said.

They also found drugs, numerous bullet holes in the seats, and $100 in cash in a nearby grassy area, according to police.

The victim told investigators that after stopping the car, Texidor and the other man repeatedly kicked him as he lay on the ground and kept asking, “Where’s the gun? Where’s the gun?”

He said the suspects took off when they heard police sirens and he had no memory of getting back into the vehicle.

His next memory was waking up in the Intensive Care Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, he told police.

Investigators eventually linked Texidor to the scene using DNA from a gun found nearby and from inside the car.

The vehicle the attack happened in belonged to his pregnant girlfriend, who was in the hospital at the time, police said.

Texidor is facing multiple criminal charges, including criminal possession of a firearm, first-degree assault, and robbery. He was already jailed on unrelated charges.

A judge set his bond at $250,000.
