A convicted felon from Fairfield County has admitted to selling heroin while awaiting sentencing on a previous charge for selling the drug to a fatal overdose victim.

Bridgeport resident Darryck Norris has pleaded guilty to possession of narcotics and other drug offenses following his arrest in February.

An investigation into Norris’ activities in the area found that he had been dealing and distributing heroin from December last year through his arrest, while he awaited sentencing for a previous drug conviction.

At approximately 8:50 p.m. on Oct. 27, 2016, first responders were dispatched to a Milford home, where they found an unresponsive 37-year-old man slumped over in the downstairs area of the home.

They initiated lifesaving measures and administrated two doses of Narcan, which had no effect. The overdose victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police would later seize four empty baggies and one full baggy of heroin. Each was stamped with the same brand.

Investigation into the fatal overdose found that Norris had been selling the victim heroin for several months. After conducting several controlled buys from him, law enforcement officials arrested Norris on Nov. 3, 2016, and he was subsequently released on $50,000 bond. He pleaded guilty to distributing heroin on May 17 last year.

Norris, 25, had been released on that bond pending his sentencing until he was arrested in February. He remains released on a $50,000 bond.

When he is sentenced at a later date, he faces a maximum term of 20 years in prison for each of the distribution of heroin charges. No sentencing date has been set.
