WILTON, Conn. Gerd Semmelroggen, a 42-year resident of Wilton, died May 28 at home. He was 78.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Covenant Church in Easton.
Semmelroggen was born March 29, 1934, in the city of Korschen in what was formerly Prussia. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1956 for a temporary visit. While in the U.S., he met Virginia Kerrigan. They married in April of 1958. She predeceased him in January of 2005.
He sold lubricants and specialty chemicals for various industries, ending his career with LF Powers in Waterbury, Conn. An avid runner, Semmelroggen actively participated with the Lightfoot and Pequot running clubs and ran numerous races, including more than a dozen marathons.
Semmelroggen is survived by a son, Gerd; a daughter, Lisa; a son-in-law, Thomas; a sister, Erika and two granddaughters. He was predeceased by a brother, Hans Georg.
