Wilton Wants Residents to Sign Up for Alerts

WILTON, Conn. – The town is asking residents to sign up for the Code Red notification system so they can receive information during emergencies such as the August hurricane and pre-Halloween storm.

“We learned that greater communications was necessary during the aftermath of the recent storms,” Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director Paul Milositz said in a news release. “To that end we are expanding our communications capabilities and reach to get official information out to the public in as broad a manner as possible.”

The Code Red system is used to spread official emergency information. The telephone-based system also has capabilities to send emails and text messages.

The town’s website (www.wiltonct.org) has a button where residents can register phones for Code Red notifications. Only registered phones will receive alerts.

Residents should add all phone numbers they want emergency information sent to.

In addition, Milositz announced the creation of a Facebook page and Twitter account.  Both will provide updates and directions directly from the town’s emergency operations center.
