Wilton Planners Leaning Toward OK For Country Club

WILTON, Conn.  – Rolling Hills Country Club soon may get the necessary permits to use a vacant house to host visiting workers.

The Wilton Planning and Zoning Commission has asked planning officials to draft a resolution for the Oct. 9 commission meeting that would grant the country club an amendment to its special permit in order to allow up to eight people to stay in the house.  

The commission closed its public hearing on the club’s request during its meeting Monday. This is the second request from Rolling Hills. A previous request to allow up to 12 people to stay in the house, located on the 157-acre property leased by the club from the Ambler Family Trust, was withdrawn after club officials were convinced it would not be approved due to planning commission concerns about traffic and the number of people staying there at one time.

Assistant Town Planner Daphne White said the proposed resolution would come with some conditions, including a rule that one of the people in the building will be a house monitor. Club representatives said previously the house monitor may be older than other people staying there.

White said the draft resolution is not a guarantee an approval is imminent.

“Just because they ask for a resolution doesn't mean it’s getting approved,” she said. “It’s not 100 percent. They’re leaning toward approving it.”
