Wilton Celebrating Fourth With Road Race, Softball, Music, Fireworks

WILTON, Conn., -- The anniversary of America's independence will be celebrated in a full day of events capped off with a fireworks show in Wilton on Saturday.

The day begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday with the 5K Freedom Run Road Race. The cost of the non-timed race is $10 for children ages 14 and younger, and $20 for those 15 and up.

At high noon, Wilton Democrats and Republicans will square off in the Frivolity Bowl Softball Game. 

Music begins at 5 p.m., with featured act Retro Express taking the stage at 7:30 p.m.

At 9:30 p.m. the highlight of the day will be the fireworks display. The show, by Atlas Pyrotechniques of Jaffrey, N.H., will light up the night sky.

The day's events will be held at the high school's athletic field.

On the night of July 4th, parking will also be available at locations such as Middlebrook School and the rest of the high school complex

The town is not allowing any personal fireworks, sparkles or gas grills on the celebration site. All pets are to be left at home as well. 

Ambler Farm will be closed for viewing the fireworks.

The Route 7 tennis courts will close at 2 p.m., and the Memorial Field track will be shut down to runners and walkers at noon.
