WILTON, Conn. About $100,000 worth of jewelry was reported missing from a Middlebrook Farm Road home in Wilton early Saturday.
The Wilton Police Department said the homeowners went out for the evening, leaving their 20-year-old son in the home. The burglary took place between early evening Friday and 12:36 a.m. Saturday, police said.
According to Wilton Police Capt. John Lynch, the thieves used a ladder to reach a balcony on the second floor, where the doors were forced open. Detectives have begun working on the case, Lynch said. He said they are contacting neighboring departments to find out whether they know of any similar crimes.
Lynch said the son only heard the dog barking, which wasnt unusual.
Nighttime is different, Police Chief Michael Lombardo said. Because, usually at night, people are at home and most burglaries occur during the day. But nighttime, we get a little more concerned because people are at home.
Lombardo asks anyone who hears or sees anything suspicious to contact the department at 203-834-6260.
