Mary Susan Hall Schapiro, 88, of Wilton

WILTON, Conn. – Mary Susan "Sue" Hall Schapiro of Wilton died Aug. 16 after a long illness. She was 88.

Born and raised in Greensboro, N.C., she was a graduate of the University of North Carolina (Women's College at Greensboro) and held master's degrees in library science from C.W. Post College of Long Island University and in liberal studies from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. A 50-year resident of Babylon, N.Y., Schapiro served for many years as the tenured director of reference and government documents at the SUNY Farmingdale library. She was a member of the Wilton Presbyterian Church.

Survivors are her children, Benjamin H. Schapiro and his wife, Marianne, of Evanston, Ill.; Mary L. Caldwell and her husband, Charles, of Washington, D.C.; William C. Schapiro of Wantagh, N.Y., and Jane Schapiro Melani and her husband, Frank, of Wilton. She is also survived by her husband, Robert D. Schapiro of Washington, D.C., and seven grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Alonzo C. Hall Jr. (USNR).  

Donations in her memory may be sent to the Humane Society of the United States, 2100 L St., NW, Washington, DC 20037. A memorial service will be held in Greensboro.
