Himes, Obsitnik In Women Voters Debate On Oct. 28

WILTON, Conn. – Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim Himes of Greenwich and Republican challenger Steve Obsitnik of Westport will square off Sunday, Oct. 28, in a debate sponsored by the League of Women Voters.

Twelve League of Women Voters chapters in Fairfield County will host the debate for the 4th District congressional seat. It takes place from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Clune Performing Arts Center at Wilton High School.

“The Leagues of Southwestern Connecticut ... have joined forces to present a centrally located forum for area residents to learn the candidates’ positions on national and local issues, particularly those impacting our region," said Jara Burnett, the debate facilitator from the LWV branch in Greenwich.

The format will include questions collected in writing from the audience and others prepared by League members. All questions will be presented by moderator Kay Maxwell of Stamford, a former president of the League of Women Voters of the United States and the current executive director of the Stamford-based World Affairs Forum.

Himes, a former business and community leader, has been a member of the House of Representatives since 2008.  He has degrees from Harvard and Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. Obsitnik is a business executive and graduate of the Naval Academy and Wharton School of Business.

Voter registration will be available at the high school before the debate, beginning at 3 p.m.
