WILTON, Conn. You can donate food and household supplies through Saturday at the Wilton Family Y to help support National Food Bank Week.
There are collection bins in the Y's lobby. Among the items needed are coffee, tea, condiments, soups, cereal, laundry detergent, paper goods and personal-care items, the Y says.
The need in town is great with 66 children, 65 adults and 14 seniors using the services of the Wilton Food Pantry for essential items," Wilton Director of Social Services Cathy Pierce said. "We want to be sure our shelves are well stocked as we enter the winter months and holiday period so that no one is going hungry or has to do without basic care products.
Wilton Social Services also needs volunteers to pick up food at the Lower Fairfield County Food Bank in Stamford and bring it back to the Wilton Food Pantry at Comstock Community Center. Cash donations will be used to buy Wal-Mart and Stop & Shop gift cards for families in need.
