Wilton To Join Hands For Annual Community Cleanup

WILTON, Conn. – You can help keep Wilton looking beautiful this weekend by lending a hand and picking up litter in your neighborhood or around town during the Wilton Conservation Commission’s annual Townwide Community Cleanup.

“As we enjoy the early spring weather this time of year, unsightly litter that has blown or been otherwise improperly disposed detracts from the clean renewal that spring brings,” the commission said in a statement. “Consequently, now is the perfect time for the cleanup because the leaves are gone from the trees and bushes, and the litter along the roads and paths is visible.”

On Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, residents and organizations are invited to be a part of the cleanup effort. Residents can focus on their own neighborhoods or can meet up with other volunteers at the Town Green gazebo across from Village Market to tackle target areas around town.

Individuals or groups looking to cleanup a specific area are asked to arrive at the Town Green to choose from a list of sites. Residents can contact the Conservation Commission in advance for an assignment.

One area in need of attention is the Norwalk River, the commission said.

Work gloves, garbage bags and trash collection will be available at the Town Green gazebo, located across from Village Market. All volunteers will receive a voucher from Pinocchio’s Pizza for a free slice of cheese pizza.

Residents interested in participating or organizing a group of volunteers can call the Conservation Commission Office at 203-563-0180 or show up Saturday morning at the gazebo.
