WILTON, Conn. Are you interested in making friends and learning more about the town you live in? The Wilton Newcomers Club invites you to join them at its annual Open House at 7 p.m. Monday at Wilton Library.
The group has held the open house for several years, but this is the first time it will start in the evening. It rescheduled the start time to boost attendance by giving working people a more convenient time, said Katie Cunningham, publicity chairwoman for the club. The two-hour evening open house will proceed the clubs ice cream social, held Sunday at Merwin Meadows Park.
We can be sort of a welcome wagon, said Cunningham, a resident of Wilton for two years. Everyone is relatively new themselves, and were trying to learn about this town and getting to learn about each other.
The group hosts the open house to give new families a chance to meet new people, Cunningham said. The open house will feature booths to inform new residents about shops, local clubs, schools, parks and other things about Wilton.
People want to know about different ways to involve their children in town, about different activities, she said. I think the social aspect is the real draw. We came from living in New York City for 10 years, and we wanted ways to socialize outside of the family.
The group will also use the outing to promote other events, including its annual Halloween Party and a Surf and Turf night Oct. 6. For more information, visit the Wilton Newcomers Club website or visit its Facebook page.
