The theme of this year’s parade, Honor and Remember, will pay tribute to veterans in Wilton and beyond for the “sacrifices they made for our country,” Wilton Memorial Day Parade Committee member Tom Briody said in a statement.

The parade will step off at 10 a.m. from 21 River Road and will make its way through Wilton Center, past Veterans Memorial Green, Old Town Hall and the Congregational Church. It will come to an end at Hillside Cemetery on Ridgefield Road, where a memorial ceremony including speeches and music will be held.

Parade participants will include the Wilton High School band, the Pyramid Temple Bagpipers, members of the Wilton American Legion Post No. 86, Wilton Police Department, Wilton Fire Department and several army vehicles. Wilton resident Drew Kennedy will serve as the lead bagpiper.

“These events are carefully planned each year to commemorate the many American soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines who have given their lives for their country during the times of war,” Briody said. “Since the birth of our country, more than 650,000 of them have given their lives in combat to defend our freedom and way of life.”

Before the parade, residents can enjoy a community pancake breakfast, organized annually by the Wilton Kiwanis Club. The breakfast will be held at the Congregational Church, 70 Ridgefield Road, from 8 to 10:30 a.m.

The parade is entirely made possible by donations from town businesses and residents.
