Wilton Library Screens 'Chasing Ice' Documentary As Part Of Green Series

WILTON, Conn. - The documentary “Chasing Ice” will be screened as part of the Green Speaker Series on Wednesday, April 30, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Wilton Library.

"Chasing Ice" is the story of one man’s mission to change the tide of history by gathering undeniable evidence of our changing planet. Within months of that first trip to Iceland, acclaimed environmental photographer James Balog conceived the boldest expedition of his life: The Extreme Ice Survey.

With a band of young adventurers in tow, Balog began deploying revolutionary time-lapse cameras across the brutal Arctic to capture a multi-year record of the world’s changing glaciers. His hauntingly beautiful videos compress years into seconds and capture ancient mountains of ice in motion as they disappear at a breathtaking rate.

"Chasing Ice" depicts a photographer trying to deliver evidence and hope to our carbon-powered planet. The documentary has received more than 30 awards, including the Renewable Natural Resources Foundation’s 2013 Outstanding Achievement Award.

A panel discussion will follow the film on "How are the Wilton faith communities responding to climate change?" It will feature the Rev. Dr. Arnold Thomas of the Wilton Congregational Church, and the Rev. Shannon White of the Wilton Presbyterian Church. The Green Speaker series is co-sponsored by Wilton Go Green and Wilton Library Association. Registration is recommended.

Wilton Library is located at 137 Old Ridgefield Road. Call 203-762-3950 or visit for more information.
