WILTON, Conn. – Special events, programming and giveaways are in store for Wilton Library patrons of all ages next week.

In celebration of National Library Week, the library will strive to make visitors feel more appreciated by offering many activities and services, ranging from classes to free entertainment, from April 14 to 20.

“We consider every day to be special for our customers and we would like to celebrate the incredible gift of free open libraries in this country,” said Elaine Tai-Lauria, executive director of the library. “During National Library Week, we’re going a little bit further to show the community how much they matter to us by launching a few new products and services with demonstrations, and offering some fun programming.”

Fans of the show “Downton Abbey” can enjoy two-hour marathons Monday through Friday in the Brubeck Room from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tea and biscuits will be served each day, and patrons are encouraged to dress up.

Library visitors will also be able to “test-drive” new technology at the Technology Demo Desk in the gallery. Specifically, patrons can try OverDrive, a service for downloading free ebooks, and Zinio, a new online magazine newsstand that’s free for Wilton Library card holders. This desk will be open from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.

Other special events and programs include a free concert featuring Wilton flutist Jessica Raposo, a SCORE business seminar, computer classes, a poetry seminar with Judson Scruton, and a variety of craft activities and games for kids.

Throughout the week, people who sign up for a Wilton Library card will get free DVD coupons and kids will receive pencils and stickers. Also, on April 19, patrons who borrow 10 or more items will receive a free Wilton Library logo reusable shopping bag.

For more information about these and other special programs planned, see the "Events" listings on the library website, or call 203-762-3950, Ext. 213, for information on adult and teen programs and Ext. 217 for children’s activities.
