WILTON, Conn. – Wilton residents and fans of jazz musician Dave Brubeck can visit Wilton Library this month to sign a remembrance book.

Brubeck, 91, died Wednesday, Dec. 5. He lived in Wilton for about 50 years.

The remembrance book is located at the library’s front desk and people have quietly signed it to thank Brubeck for his music and charity.

“Dave Brubeck held a special place in all our hearts in the library, in Wilton and worldwide,” said library spokesperson Janet Crystal. “It was so nice to have him for all he did for the local community.”

The memorial book is a way for residents and friends of the jazz great to express their emotions, Crystal said. “He was a treasure and we just wanted to capture some of those thoughts.”

Brubeck contributed to the library for years, and the Brubeck Room near the library’s entrance is named for him. Crystal said Thursday she did not know how many people had signed the book, but several pages are already filled. The library plans to collect the messages throughout the month and then give the book to Brubeck’s family.

Wilton Library has left Brubeck CDs and books on display. Crystal said she’s not sure if there has been an increase in circulation of Brubeck material.
