WILTON, Conn. -- A three-part “Community Conversations on Mental Health” will begin Wednesday night, March 19, at the Gilbert and Bennett School in Georgetown. The conversations were launched as a result of the deadly Newtown school shootings.

The other meetings will be March 26 and April 2. The public is invited to sign up online at to take part.

The Community Conversations are a national initiative, designed to provide the opportunity to talk about mental health and to develop recommendations for local solutions that will build healthy minds, healthy communities.

Each conversation group is kept small, with six to 12 people per group and meets over a light supper. A trained facilitator guides the discussion so that all participants can air their beliefs, participate in identifying challenges, and work toward actionable solutions.

The Community Conversations are open to any resident of Fairfield County. Whether it be anxiety, depression, or another disorder, virtually everyone knows someone who is struggling with this issue.

In Fairfield County, this initiative is organized by the Southwest Regional Mental Health Board and the National Alliance for Mental Illness.

This series is sponsored by the Wilton, Ridgefield and Redding League of Voters, the Southwest Regional Mental Health Board, Wilton Social Services and Ridgefield Youth Services.
