WILTON, Conn. Cheers of Santa is here! came from the children gathered at the Wilton Town Green as Santa Claus rounded the corner on his firetruck.
Once he had climbed down from the top of his ride, Santa slowly made his way to the gazebo through throngs of children yelling out their Christmas wishes. A request for a pony was greeted with an OK and a Merry Christmas.
Four-year-old Oliver Richards met Santa on his way to the gazebo from the safety of his fathers shoulders. When asked what he wanted for Christmas, Oliver responded, A firetruck like Santas.
At the gazebo, Santa and First Selectman Bill Brennan asked the gathered families to count down to light the tree before children went up to sit with Santa and tell him their Christmas wishes.
This is a great event from the Chamber of Commerce, Brennan told the crowd. Were very excited this year to have such a great turnout.
Children and their families lined up to visit with Santa as early as 5 p.m. Friday, even though the ceremony didnt officially start until 5:30. Mother of two Brina Papakosmas said this was the first time she and her children had come to visit with Santa since they moved to Wilton three-and-a-half years ago.
I just found out about it. I didnt know about this, said Papakosmas, who plans to make this event a part of their Christmas traditions. Her 5-year-old son George cant wait to see Santa she said, predicting he would ask for Legos this year.
While families waited to see Santa, they were entertained by a magician hired by the Wilton Chamber of Commerce as well as by the Wilton High School Band playing Christmas songs.
