Wilton Chocolate Shop Offers Taste of the Holidays

WILTON, Conn. – Filled with boxes of unstocked chocolate, Wilton chocolate shop Sweet Pierre is getting ready for the holiday season.

Nancy Saxe, a Wilton resident and the shop owner, says this is one of the biggest seasons all year for Sweet Pierre. In the early part of the holiday season, much of the business comes from producing gift baskets that are given by corporations or groups.

Saxe said she expects business to pick up in the second week of December, when people head out to pick up stocking stuffers.

“They can just get everything here,” Saxe said, instead of shopping for hours on the Internet. And much of the chocolate she sells is from the United States, including from Connecticut’s own Bridgewater Chocolate.

Saxe owns a second shop in Ridgefield. So when Small Business Saturday came around last week, she was surprised she hadn't already known about it.

“I heard about it on the radio,” Saxe said. And she said business was good that day. It was slow in the morning, but both stores picked up in the afternoon. “A lot more people were around Saturday,” and the stores were open later in the evening.

It's “great to shop local,” Saxe said, and she was happy with the sales on Small Business Saturday, though she wished she had known about it sooner.
