WILTON, Conn. William "Bill" J. Mitchell, 71, of Wilton, died March 18 after a nine-year battle with cancer.
A member of the U.S. Marine Corps, Mitchell was a certified public accountant and a sailor.
Son of Gertrude Sampson and Frederick Mitchell, he was born in Bridgeport on Sep. 13, 1940. Mitchell worked at Newday Communications on Water Street since its founding.
Mitchell held a captain's license and was a member of Singles Under Sail. He also held a membership with the Rotary Club.
He is survived by Terry; his daughters Kelly Mitchell Phillips and husband Hugh of Grand Junction, Colo., and Jennifer Blake of Charlotte, N.C., and husband Scott; sister Joyce DePalma; brother Fred Mitchell; and a grandson and three nieces.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name of Jesus Church in New Rochelle, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Norwalk Hospital, Whittingham Cancer Center, Attn: Dr. Richard Frank, 24 Stevens St., Norwalk, CT 06850.
