What's On Your Mind, Wilton?

WILTON, Conn. – Drumming up business at a new store, wanting a cooler summer day and finishing a big move were some of the things on the minds of people in Wilton when we spoke with them Thursday.

Jami Ginsburg of Wilton was thinking about good ways to keep cool as she and her son Luke, 6, were leaving the Village Market. She is not looking forward to the scorching temperatures forecast for Friday and the weekend. “I’d like it to be a little cooler,” Ginsburg said. “Like 75 degrees.”

Luke jokingly said he wouldn’t mind it going up to 130 degrees but said it would be a fine time to dine on something cool. “I’m going to get some ice cream,” he said.

Bill Schmidt, 19, who works at the Village Market, said he enjoys his work, especially when he gets to stay indoors on hot days. “It gets busy in there,” he said.

Max Fanwick, 18, a recent graduate of Wilton High School, had food on his mind as well as right in front of him. He dined on sushi, fried chicken and other good eats outside of Scoops ice cream shop. It’s normal for Fanwick, who is a decathlete who will attend Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire this fall. “Eating 6,000 to 8,000 calories is kind of typical,” he said.

Fanwick’s friend and fellow Wilton High grad Chris Cavalea, 18, didn’t eat any of the food his friend munched on. He was focused on enjoying his last summer at home before heading to George Washington University in Washington, D.C. “I want to have as much fun as possible before I leave,” he said.

Jeanne Fusco of Wilton had her mind on finding ways to promote the opening of The Little Shop, which she opened last week. She thinks the location next to Scoops might get a few people to peek in. Although summers are usually slow, she’s all right with how business is going. “So far, so good,” she said.

Janette Logan is moving from New Canaan to Naples, Fla., and has spent the past week packing up to move south. “I cleared out my entire house,” said Logan, who has family in Wilton. “It’s been a crazy week, but it’s also good to get rid of things that you’re not using.”
