Wright, the park’s master artist and instructor, is offering academy-level training in two-day weekend and four-day weekday workshops in the American Impressionist en plein air tradition.
"Weir Art Academy students will learn to apply the methods used by the Impressionists to their work in capturing nature, in nature," a press release said. "Through Wright’s multi-dimensional teaching methods and unique ‘Preservation and Progress Model’, each student will develop their own personal brand or style of Impressionism. By applying the techniques and philosophy of the Impressionists, both science and poetry, students will experience the Impressionist tradition while painting en plein air in a landscape that has inspired artists for over 130 years."
Students are welcomed to register for one or both workshops each session.
Weir Art Academy workshops are open to all levels from beginners to advanced. Space is limited. All Weir Art Academy workshops will take place in the historic Burlingham Barn and surrounding landscape at Weir Farm National Historic Site.
Sessions for the Weir Art Academy will be held in spring, summer, and fall 2014. Here are the spring session dates:
- Two-day Weekend Workshop: Saturday and Sunday, April 5 and 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., $195
- Four-day Weekday Workshop: Monday through Thursday, April 7 through 10, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., $395
- Six-day Workshop Discounted: Saturday through Thursday, April 5 through 10, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., $545

Wright teaches at the Bush-Holley Historic Site, which housed the Cos Cob Art Colony; and is an instructor of Impressionist drawing and painting at the Silvermine Arts Center. He also instructs Master Art Workshops throughout the USA and Europe.
Weir Farm National Historic Site was home to three generations of American artists and is named for Julian Alden Weir, a leading figure in American art and the development of American Impressionism.
