Sister Helen Reed, 91, of Wilton, Longtime Teacher

WILTON, Conn. – Sister Helen Reed, of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Wilton, died April 30 at Lourdes Health Center in Wilton. She was 91. 

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and entered the School Sisters in 1939. Known as Sister Mary Maelisa for many years, she was a middle school and high school teacher for more than 65 years. She taught at St. Ann's in Baltimore, Md., Academia Del Perpetuo Socorro in Miramar, Puerto Rico, St. Saviour High School in Brooklyn and Bishop Juwie High School in Zwedru, Liberia. She retired to Wilton in 2000. 

She is survived by a sister, Barbara Reed, of Mamaroneck, N.Y.; a niece, and many friends in Upperco, Md., and Elizabeth, N.J. 

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday at SSND Villa Chapel in Wilton. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Bethel. Bracken Donovan Spodnick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
