WILTON, Conn.  – With just 18 days left to go before Christmas, Megan Dodman was too excited to take a seat at the Wilton Library with a certain jolly soul and say what she wants under the tree.

“It’s great to come and see Santa,” said Megan, 6, after spending a few moments with the popular man of the night during Wilton’s annual Holiday Stroll. The free candy cane wasn’t so bad, either.

Some unwanted raindrops did not dampen the spirits of hundreds of Wilton children excited to have their moment with Santa Claus, the highlight of the holiday kickoff celebration. Santa usually meets with his little friends in the town’s gazebo in Wilton Center, but the wet weather forced the Wilton Chamber of Commerce to move the gathering inside the library.

It was just as well. Megan’s mother, Colleen Dodman, said it was fun for her children to come out and enjoy a nice time with neighbors and other children dreaming of fun things that they will hopefully get to unwrap on Christmas morning. “It’s really nice to see them having fun,” Colleen Dodman said.

Kelly Ongley, who came with her three children, also had fun. “I love it. We can get into the Christmas spirit and everyone has fun,” she said. Her daughters Caitlin, 7, and Melissa, 6, had their minds on a few cool gifts.

The joy wasn’t contained to kids. Nadine Wilf happily hopped on Santa’s lap, even before her 8-year-old twins Kalman and Leeland could.

I think it’s very fun to do,” she said.
