New Computer System Comes to Wilton Library

WILTON, Conn. – A new integrated library system is making its way into the Wilton Library computers.

Due to go live on March 29, the system will makes library catalog searches faster and allow library patrons to receive emails telling them what items they have on hold, when items are due and when they are overdue.

Mary Anne Franco, who is head of network services at the library, said patrons will be pleased with the new system.

“As we all become more familiar with the technology, we’ll be able to introduce new features in the weeks and months to come, such as notifications via text messaging,” Franco said in a statement.

But to change over to the new system, patrons will have to endure some difficulties.  From March 25 at 5 p.m. to the morning of March 29, the online catalog will be offline. Physical library cards will be needed to take out items because the system won’t be accessible.

However, the library said that other “everyday functions,” such as the calendar, database and program registration will still be available on the website.

Also, patrons won’t be able to put items on hold, and the library suggests that any held items be picked up before 5 p.m. March 25 because afterward, they won't be available to be checked out until April 1.

“We realize that there may be some inconveniences to patrons as we’re implementing the new system, but we expect that the long-term gain will be well-received,” said Carolyn Benjamin, head of technical services for the library.
